What do you think of the dog food called Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul?
I am thinking of putting my chi on this because he has allergys and I think this would be better then Iams puppy.Could this dog food help with his allergys?I dont want to keep giving him Vetalog pills for his allergys.
Not sure what he is allergic to but I thought i would start with his food.
Any other suggestions on food.
Were can I find Natural Balance?
Now what one should I get ?
Maybe I should just stay with what i have until all the recalls are over.
I breed Chihuahua’s and I own #8. I know that Chicken Soup Canned Food has been recalled. I feed my dogs, Canidae All Life Stages Dry Food, and none of their products have been recalled, so it’s safe. Canidae is a good quality food, it has No corn, wheat, soy, grain fractions, fillers, is human grade, and is naturally preserved. My dogs love it, and have had no health problems at all. It is very reasonably priced and they don’t need to eat as much, but they still get all the necessary nutrition that they need, and the food last’s alot longer than store bought, so you save money at the same time. Canidae All Life Stages comes in 5lb, 20lb, and 40lb bags. I would suggest getting a small bag first and see if your Chihuahua likes it and you can alway’s get a bigger bag later. Most pet supply stores carry it. You need to just call around in your area and see who carries it. It’s also really good for dogs with allergies. This food is also for all stages of your dog’s life, so if you have a puppy, you can stick to the same food, and not have to worry about what food to switch to when it becomes an adult. Hope this helps! Good Luck!
It seems to be friendly to most pets, not a lot of bad stuff. Just nutrition.

It’s better than the Iams, most things are.. But I don’t think it’s the best food out there.. There are far better foods.. Many dogs find it very rich and it makes them gasy..
It might help with the allergies if it didn’t have any grains at all .. What is the dog allergic to?!?

Anything is better than IAMS. Chicken Soup is a respectable food, but you should try to find Natural Balance. The great thing about this food is that it is a single carb, single protein. Look for the Duck and Potato formula. It is an allergy specifc formula. If the symptoms don’t get better in about 6 weeks, or get worse at any time, try the Fish and Sweet Potato. If that still doen’t work, go the vet. A majority of vets know little about food and will push pricey Hills on you. Change the diet to a few select things. Pick up the duck and potato treats as well. Only give him those two things. This way you know exactly what he is eating. If he’s not better by July or so, or gets progressively worse, take him to the vet, it may not be the food. Keep in mind that you will not see results over night! The dog takes some time getting used to the food. Good luck!

Just be sure it is not on the recall list. If ur avatar is a pic of ur chi,he`s the cutest thing I`ve ever seen and I`m sure u`d not want to feed him something harmful. Why not consult a vet in regard to his allergies and let him recommend a correct diet.
BEWARE….wheat gluten and rice proteins in any dog food formula. until all this recall business gets straightened out.

It looks pretty good to me.
Also, the Fish and Chips (trout and sweet potato) and Lamb Millet Rice formulas from http://www.frrco.com/121668 are made to be non-allergic, and are wheat, corn, and chicken free, some of the most common food allergens to dogs.
No byproducts, animal digests, added flavorings, sugars, dyes, or preservatives are in there either…

Chicken Soup has good ingredients. Their canned food was recalled last week due to contaminated rice protein concentrate. As far as I know, the dry food is still considered "safe" though.
I would take a guess and say that your pup is possibly allergic to corn, which is a main ingredient in Iams. I would recommend looking into a natural food, which uses no corn, and only good, digestable grains such as brown rice. Natural Balance is a great food for dogs with allergies, because they use alternate protein sources such as duck and potato, or fish and sweet potato. Natural Balance venison blends are part of the recall as well, so I would stay clear of those, however the other flavors are supposed to be safe.
Personally, with all of the pet food recalls, I have logged a TON of hours researching foods, and I now feed both my dog and cat Innova. IMO, this is the best food on the market, short of making their food myself.
Here are some web sites with a lot of information about pet foods and things to look for:

Chicken Soup is a fantastic food. It has a lot of meat protein, no corn, wheat, soy or by products. It is also very reasonably priced. It most certainly would be better then IAMS or any other store brand food.
As far as recall only the canned kitten and puppy was recalled because of "possible" contamination, however after FDA and the company did testing none was found..it was a precaution only since these two foods were contracted out to American Nutrition to be made…there other foods including dry are not.
Also be aware when switching foods, especially going from low quality to high quality to do it slowly at least over a week. Also be aware it can take 6 weeks up to 3 months for a dogs system to adjust to a better quality food, so you may see excess gas, lose stools during this adjustment period.
As for allergies you should have allergy testing done by your vet to find out exactly what your dog is allergic ot so you can make the necassary adjustments and treat them effectively.
