I want to buy a meduim sized fishtank and a fiter for my room and i was wondering what type of small, inexpensive fish i could buy to put in it.
Oh, and i want a fish that moves alot. not like those mexican fighting fish that look dead.
And i want a fish that is available at pet shops in Australia.
Mollies or Swordtails bith are active and very colorful. They also are very easy to take care of and hard to kill.
betta fish :]

any fish for a small tank needs a heater. goldfish actually get quite large. guppies are a great bet. just remember to cycle your tank!

bettas are very easy to maintain, they only need to be fed 2-3 times a week.

Guppies are constantly moving. They really don’t have to have any special treatment, and they’re they’re really sweet fish. I’m not sure if you can get them in Australia but you can look. Or you can try platys. But they really don’t move as much as others, but they’re not anything like betas.lol.

betta, or guppie, mabey a molly if your tank is 10 gallons or above. but not goldfish those need lots of space dont be fooled by people who put them in bowls

I would prefer the beta fish, i have one since three years now. Female or male is good, just dont put a fish witht the same sex(male or female) as it. Its perfect for wat u said about the tank size etc.

"Mexican fighting fish"? Do you mean Siamese fighting fish? A betta?
You could try keeping several (all male) fancy guppies in a tank. They’re available in a wide variety of color morphs and they’re fairly active. They can also tolerate cooler water temp’s than many other tropical fish.

If you want more than one fish for your tank. I would recommend white clouds mountain minnow. They are pretty cheap and can be found in most stores these days. I personally would put a heater in the tank, especially in winter, unless you have a heater in your house. There is not mexican fighting fish, it’s called a siamese fighting fish. Originating from Thailand (formerly known before as Siam)

a betta fish but you can’t put them with other fish or it will kill them they have special food made for them, but its not very expensive…usually about $3-$4 dollars and one thing of food will last them a lifetime….which is about three years under the right conditions…oh yeah they like warm water and will die if they get to cold….and if you want one that will move allot get a female…their more lively than males…my old betta fish twinkle would jump out of the water and bite your hand if you held it right….but she died =<

White cloud mountain minnows are very hardy, as well as being active and colorful. They also prefer cooler water, so a heater would probably not be necessary. A small school of them would work well for your tank.

I have white clouds myself.
