How much is a goldfish? Or a pet fish? :)?

I’m needing to buy a fish for my mate tommorow as a birthday present! And just wondering how much a goldfish or a pet fish costs without the bowl or what ever :)

Also, if you have bought a fish, do you get it in a plastic ag or something?!!

Cheers if you can help

Common gold fish usually cost about a dollar or so, but they should be kept in a large filtered aquarium and not a bowl. If you want a fish with an inexpensive startup cost, I would recommend a betta. Make sure you get a bowl that has at least a gallon capacity. Depending on what kind of bowl you get, (you can even find mini aquariums for a good price) you’ll probably spend between $15 – $30 US. And yes, pet stores will usually put the fish in a plastic bag for you to carry home. However, with bettas, some will sell them in a plastic cup with a lid. The cups they come in are way too small and should not be used as a permanant home for your mate’s new fishie. Good luck, hope I helped. ;)

Generally, goldfish are about 25 cents and they come in a plastic bag. Other fish can be between $1-3. A betta fish cost around $3 at wal mart and they come in a plastic cup.

I honestly would not recommend buying any live animal as a present, especially a goldfish. They are a huge responsibility.

Goldfish range in price (at Petsmart) from .12 cents to $30. What most people don’t realize is that a proper aquarium for these fish will cost at least $300. All fish require a tank, and a filter. Unless your friend already has a tank set up, or has had fish before, don’t buy them as gifts.

~Bowls are death traps for fish. There is no oxygen and waste builds up and poisons the fish.

~If your friend is interested in fish, then buy him a book about them, or a gift certificate to the pet store.

Fish can cast anywhere from 25 cents (or less) to $100 or more. Even gold fish. There are some fancy types out there that can get expensive. You can by "feeder" goldfish for a couple dollars for a dozen.

When you buy the fish, the store will put it in a plastic bag for you. Remember that the fish cannot live in this bag for an extended period. Your friend will have to have a tank/bowl ready to put him in ASAP.

The price of the goldfish will depend on the kind of goldfish. If you buy a little baby common goldfish, the it is probably going to be less then $0.50.

I know you said you didn’t want to hear the price of the "bowl" but I feel I should tell you anyways. The price of actually keeping that goldfish is going to be about $300,no kidding. Common goldfish get BIG (about a foot long) and are messy little things that need 55 gallons of heavy filtered water.

You go to the pet store and the goldfish will be in a tank. You pick out your fish and they will put it in a plastic bag with some tank water.

Edit: Do you have a cycled aquarium ready for the fish you’re getting tomorrow?

  10. Well, actually to take care of a gold fish properly, it will cost them and you tons of money. But, usually Goldfish range from what kind or where you live for how much you they’ll spend. If you were just planning on getting a common one, they range anywhere from 10 cents to 75 cents. It depends where you live….

Try starting off with a Betta, Guppy, or a Mollie fish.

The betta is the one I would most likely suggest. They should only need minimum requirements: a 2 gallon tank minimum, air hose, air stone, and an air pump. They don’t need one of those common tanks like the rectangular ones, you can just go to the pet store and get a small one. But that’s about all they need. They’re very hardy so it’s easy to keep them, there are a few different kinds and are very pretty! The varites is endless when it comes to color and they live anywhere from 3-6 years! My best suggestion to get them is to visit a Petco near you. They have both male and females and different kinds of bettas. Also they have all the supplies. Plus, you can ask one of the fish experts there to help you. (<—– even doing some research on them would be good. =] )

I hope this helped you! x]

Not a good idea to get a goldfish for a present. they will require a ton of work and a good sized tank with ha good filter.

Instead get him a nice betta fish and a betta tank with a heater. The Betta’s cost 3-7 U.S. Dollars and come in little plastic tubs. If not a bag will be provided for you.

They require at least a 5 gallon bowl/mini tank with a small filter and a small heater. Your looking a about 35 U.S Dollars on the cheep end to get that whole set-up.

Again DO NOT GET A GOLDFISH. Good Luck
