Where could I keep a pet bird?
I would love to have a budgie or even a cockatoo/parrot but I am not sure where I would be able to keep them. I live in a really hot country so I would have to keep them inside. I have looked in lots of pet shops but I can never find cages that seem big enough. I hate seeing birds in small cages because they have no room to fly so I would like to get a big cage.
Any ideas where I could keep my bird if I got one?
Also, how messy are they?

Maybe a shady spot outside and you could even put them out for the day then bring them in at night. They also need a quiet place to sleep and a little cover for their cage to help them to relax. I suggest you buy an inexpensive bird care book before buying.

Keep your birds inside and at temperatures around 70-72 degrees. They should be fine. Just don’t let them get too hot or too cold. And if you have birds, you will have mess. They are probably the messiest creatures known to man!

I have 2 Green Cheeked Conures, a Cockatiel, 2 Budgies, and a Parrotlet. Whew!! Haha
Budgies come originally from australia usally they can take the heat just ensure they have lots of fresh water, and you can always spray them with a cleaned plant sprayer filled with water that will keep them cool but not everyday as budgies don’t like a bath every day.I would keep budgies as a first pet bird cockatoos are one of the most hardest pet birds to keep and need a huge amount of time or they get fustrated indeed it is questionable if they should be allowed to be sold as pet birds.
Back to the budgies – get two they are flock birds and need compainonship the cage needs to be square with bars that are horizontal so they can climb,and give them a natural branch to perch on as plastic ones give them foot problems.Let them out most days for a fly around.They will spill seed and feathers and bird dust but this can be hooverd up easily.Don’t keep birds in the kitchen and not in a window or somwhere that the cage may be pushed over.

I would look on the internet for a cage they have all sizes. Make sure the bars of the cage are the right size for the bird you get. If you get a large cage sometimes the bars are bigger and they can get the heads though and get caught. I have a perch so my bird get time outside the cage. Bird poop every 20 minutes 10 minutes more or less depending on when they eat.. They poop a lot. If you keep it outside the cage when your home then a smaller cage would be ok. Make sure you have the amount of time to devote to your companion before you get one. I keep my bird 4 to 6 hours outside his cage every day.

Birds are great little companions but they are usually slower to warming up to a person than a cat or a dog would be. Your best bet is to look in newspaper adds and check out the internet to find a parrot. Do some research on the type of bird you would like. A budgie is a great first bird! If you arnt going to be around allot you should get two so they can keep each other company. You want to find a breeder that hand feeds the babies and lets them have allot of human contact before they are weaned.
The second thing is yes birds can be messy. The larger the bird the larger your mess. I have a parrotlet and he isnt actually too bad at making a mess as he is just one bird. He flings his food around a little bit but I do have a deep cage bottom that cages the seed so not much ends up on the floor.
Another thing I want you to think about before taking your bird outside is the possability of your bird escaping from thier cage or catching bird mites! The mites are HORRIBLy hard to get rid of. I will not take my bird outside ever again as he got mites from sitting outside in the sun with me.
You can find nice sized cages online, on ebay etc.
