Can I possibly have a pet bird and cat at the same time?

I want a pet bird but i currently have a cat. I love my cat to death and could never get rid of her. I would really be interested in getting a bird. Could a bird possibly live in harmony without being eaten by my cat?
I would like a Cockatiel, and my cat spends almost every second of the day in my room. Help!!!
Of course u can have a bird and a car. But, ull have to train ur cat not to eat birds and u should keep them seperated from each other.
we do, bird lives in the cage, really high up, if you let the bird out, close the cat off

yes, but what sort of bird? and realize that getting a bird is a long commitment. Many of the birds out there, especially the ones that are parrots or resemble them, live to be around 80. FULL TIME COMMITMENT. make sure you know what you are getting into.

You just need to be careful and make sure that the living arrangement you make for the bird are ones that keep it in safe distance from your cat. It is very possible to have both, just be careful and smart about it. For example, I have cats and I used to have a bird. I kept the bird in my room and stopped allowing my cats to come into my room. The cats were still perfectly happy with the rest of the house and my bird did not have to be stressed or endangered by my cat.

I have a cockatiel, two cats (both one year old) and a west highland terrier. My cats and dogs never have shown aggression towards my bird. Idk why though

First you need a new bird (sorry if my language is offensive). And baby kitten. Teach them to be-friend each other. get a small cage and put the bird in it. Put the kitten next to it and talk to both. They will eventually be-friend each other (provided you don’t have another cat absent). And eventually they will trust each other. When you trust that they trust each other not to attack each other. take the bird out and make sure that they don’t play fight to rough. It has to be a kitten and baby bird because they learn fast and they can learn the wrong things.

You can, but I would never leave the bird out of the cage with the cat around…..and never leave them able to be around each other (in cage or not) unless there’s constant supervision. Cat’s may seem o.k., but they are extremely fast, and instinctive……..

only if the cat is trianed to not kill the bird.

Live in harmony? Chances are, not. I have 6 lovebirds and a very crafty cat. You don’t want to know how many times I’ve been woken up in the middle of the night just to chase lovebirds around the room after he managed to open the latch. Sometimes several times a week. If you are able to keep the bird in a high enough area that the cat cannot access it at all, and are able to keep the cat out of your room when the bird comes out, you might be able to do it. But the cat cannot be left in your room while you’re not there. Out of my six cats, I only trust one to stay in the room with my rabbits/hamster/fish, because after ten years with her, I know when I come back they’ll all still be there. That doesn’t mean I’m going to leave her alone in here while they’re running around outside of their cages.
If you’re very careful, it can be done. It takes a lot of second-checking to make sure the door to your room is closed, that the bird is in a safe position and that you’re always around to supervise if the cat is in your room.

I have birds and pointing dog breeds and they have killed two of my birds in the past. I moved my birds into an area where no dogs are allowed so they would be safe.
You could put the bird in an area where your cat is not allowed.
My dogs are trained show dogs but they have a strong hunting instinct. So even if you have a perfectly well behaved cat there is no guarantee that your cat may not want to "play" with your bird and kill it.
I know people who have successfully owned hunting dogs/cats and cats at the same time with no problems. You can give it a try and if it doesn’t work out then find a new home for one of them or separate them in the house so they have no way of getting near each other.
