What household products takes the dog urine smell out?
We just moved into our house and the previous tenents had a dog and let the dog bo his business in the basement. Now our dog goes down there and does the same thing??? How can I get the smell out and stop my dog from doing this…dont have a door on basement???
Sorry it is a concrete floor
I would mop the area well, to make sure it was as clean as it could possibly be. Bleach can be tried as well. I then try to take it out by pouring a little vinegar, if possible, to the spot. If it seems that you have the odor still, you may have to try one of those products that deal specifically with the odor removal. I’ve seen them sold in pet stores, but I’ve never tried them. I was blessed enough to be able to just rely on the vinegar method. Hope this helps!
I would try kitty litter first and baking soda second. Fine powder draws the smell and liquids out of the cement.
Make sure that the area is washed clean first with soap and water.

I have found that vinigar is just about an all around cure all.

I had the same problem about a year ago. I have 3 dogs and a cat. The previous owner also had a dog and the basement was carpeted. I was told by some floor specialist, to get a neutralizer (sold in pet stores) pour directly onto the spot. and put a towel (and i wet it too with the stuff) over the spot and let it dry. Then I used a carpet cleaner (i own a hover). This worked, but the dog was use to going down there. and it was only 1 of my 3 dogs that would do this. I eventually pulled the carpet up and put in pergo. I do have a door to the basement (you might consider putting one on). The dog no longer bothers going down there.

My suggestion is to seal the floor with Kiltz. I own a house that smokers lived in. The only way to get rid of the nicotine smell was to seal the walls and ceilings with this, and removing and replacing the carpet. Urine odors and nicotine odors cannot be removed by the Fire Home Restorers. They are the ones who gave me this advice.

You don’t say what kind of flooring is in the basement. Concrete floor, tile, carpet. Everything has different methods of cleaning a removing the smell.
If it is concrete, you will need to clean the area really well. Then an acid cleaner, etcher to prepare the surface. A sealer will need to be put on the surface.
Your dog has it in his head now that it is the place to go potty. Even when the smell is gone your pet will still use it.
If you do not want your dog going into the basement, here is a way to stop it. Get an Electronic Fence for dogs. It is the wire that buried in the ground and a collar shocks the dog when he tries to cross it. They work very well and is not cruel to the dogs. Have your husband, boyfriend, friend or handyman put it across the basement door at the bottom. When your pet tries to go through the door, he’ll get the shock and stop. It will only take a few time before it gets the message and stops trying. By the time the batteries in the collar wear out, your dog won’t even try to go in the basement.

Natures Miracle. Use a black light to find all the old pet stains. And if that does not work then you might have to hire a professional cleaner that specializes in pet odors.

Sam’s Club has this cleaner/deodorizer called Odo-ban. I have three dogs on an enclosed porch and i use this once a week and nobody knows that is where the dogs are kept.

you can use spic and span or apple cider vinegar

I don’t quite agree with this, yet it’s still a fascinating topic and worth discussing.
