Great Dane Honey – teaching your dog to pick up his toys (clicker training dog tricks)

www.bighoneydog.com / (Inspired by fickla01’s video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nlpWj7jQss)
Showing the sequence of how Honey the Great Dane learnt to pick up socks and put them into a laundry basket. Honey knew the “hold” command but had never learnt anything similar to this before so it was interesting to clicker train from scratch. It took six sessions of about 5mins each – real trouble at first as she was just not getting it but then with a bit of advice from dog trainer, Flip Calkoen (www.fliptopdog.co.nz) – we figured out how to break it down into steps she could understand and she learn it quickly after that!

    she’s doing so …
she’s doing so great!!! I like the suggestion if teaching her to put it on a higher surface first, even for my shorter pups it’s still hard to put it in a basket.

I started by making it MY job to have the sock land in the basket once my dog picked it up. First I clicked just the pick up, and then i clicked the tiny sound it made when it hit the bottom of the basket. gradually I helped out less and less with moving the basket for them :)
