what kind of pet fish can you have that don’t need a filter. In other words, just plain water?

Goldfish or Betas

I’m looking for a good pet fish shop in Manhattan, something with a nice selection of aquatic plants and fish.

Umm, I am not sure what it is called, but it is on Nassau St. just south of Spruce but before Fulton. Hope this helps, that is where I got my fish.

Well my sister is 20 now and when she was young she went to a funfair and won a pet fish. This is happened before I was born. The fish is still living and I’m 13 now. Is 13 years close to a record?

Meet Tish; you’ll be married with a 13 year old daughter and Tish would still be going strong :0)

My friend said her fish would swim to the top and let her pet it.

…………..Fishes don’t do that do they?!

She’s telling the truth. I have a Betta that jumps up out of the water to grab his food. If you go over and talk to him he swims back and forth like he’s waving

Goldfish can live in upwards of five years when the aquarium water is kept clean and the fish are not overfed. Get a fish to live longer with tips from an aquarium shop owner in this free video on aquariums.

My son will be 2 on Monday and loves fish. His dad and I were considering buying him 1 or 2 goldfish. I think he’ll love the responsibilty of getting to feed them everyday,as well as enjoying watching them. My sister however belives 2 is too young for a pet, I’d like some other opinions.

I think it is just fine for you to buy him 1 fish in a fish bowl. Most 2 year olds know not to pet a fish and to keep them in the bowl. You guys will have to help him care for the fish but that’s not hard. Go ahead and get him the fish. Oh and there is a book about a pet gold fish dying so when the time comes read him the book and flush the fish.

I’m needing to buy a fish for my mate tommorow as a birthday present! And just wondering how much a goldfish or a pet fish costs without the bowl or what ever :)

Also, if you have bought a fish, do you get it in a plastic ag or something?!!

Cheers if you can help

Common gold fish usually cost about a dollar or so, but they should be kept in a large filtered aquarium and not a bowl. If you want a fish with an inexpensive startup cost, I would recommend a betta. Make sure you get a bowl that has at least a gallon capacity. Depending on what kind of bowl you get, (you can even find mini aquariums for a good price) you’ll probably spend between $15 – $30 US. And yes, pet stores will usually put the fish in a plastic bag for you to carry home. However, with bettas, some will sell them in a plastic cup with a lid. The cups they come in are way too small and should not be used as a permanant home for your mate’s new fishie. Good luck, hope I helped. ;)

How long can they go w/o FOOD?
It’s a goldfish 2+ years old about 3 inches long.

completely depends on the kind of fish (as well as their size) – some: a few days, others can go for weeks without food. What kind of fish do you have? how large is it?

ADD ON:
A full sized goldfish can go up to 2 weeks without food. However, at 3" long it’s still a juvie (they can grow to a good 12" or so unless your tank size is restricting his growth at which point he’ll just be stunted then die when he can’t grow anymore) so I wouldn’t go more than 5 days without food at that size.

TIP:
If you’re going away it’s good to prepare them by slowing down their metabolism. Goldfish should be fed once per day so once he is on just one feeding per day – prepare him by feeding every other day. That’ll slow down his metabolism and make him store more food in his system.

i got a new fish only to bad cause spenzer my cat broke the camra so if it aint good dont blame me blame the cat if needed lol

i had a flowerhorn, sad to say that fish died after 10 months "relationship"!i want to have a pet fish again which is not so time consuming and costless to have as pet like flowerhorn.

Here are a few hardy fish:
1-Guppies, I prefer the males because they’re more colorful
2- One Goldfish, you’ll need to get a large tank, over 10 gallons and a strong filter because goldfish create a lot of waste and all goldfish can grow up to 3 ft. long.
3-A betta, do not put 2 males together!
4-African dwarf frogs, you’ll need 2.5 gallons of water per frog. These live fully underwater and are extremely cute!
