What kind of pet bird could I get that I could bring outside with me? Is it reasonable for an apartment?

I’m thinking about getting a pet bird, and I also think it would be really cool if I could train said bird to go outside with me on my runs or something. Do they need special training to go outside and not fly away? Also what kind of bird would be the best for this kind of training, and would it be ok in somewhat small living space like an apartment?

Any bird with its wings clipped can go outside. Species is not important. Any bird with the ability to fly can and most likely will fly away. Wings must be clipped. Don’t take it running with you either way. Its not a dog and will not enjoy the bumpy ride. They also scare easily and will fight to fly. large birds will do damage. Outside if teh bird is tethered it will hurt itself. if its tehtered to you-you will get hurt and the bird too. loose with wings clipped on your shoulder it will try to fly but wont- it will just fall-but first it will panic to hold on. 11 year old-one owner macaw-hand fed-stayed on this womans shoulder hours every day for 11years. newspaper came by to do a story on her and her birds. They also took her picture. bird had never had it picture taken and got scared. 111 stitches. My dbl yellowhead parrot got some of my wifes ear. 8 years i had that bird. but not much longer after that-loool loool You live in an small apartment. birds are messy and some very loud an noisy. Hit the pet stores and breeders in your area. See a lot of birds. Talk to a lot of people and take your time if you really want a bird. Get the right bird and you will be a bird lover for life but they can be a handfull. Birds are special-delicate BUT. remember-it aint a dog.

I have never owned a pet bird, but I have been thinking about buying one for a pet. I don’t want to be constantly annoyed or woken up at sunrise. A quiet bird that makes a sound or two every now and then would be perfect.

Finches would be your best bet. Maybe doves. My green cheek is pretty quiet, but occasionally will make noise. As a general rule, the smarter and more fun the bird, the noisier they are!!!!

which one would make over the better pet bird?

I own to GCC’S I would like to get another pet bird either a ringneck or caique. I hear pro and cons about both of them. I hear a ring neck might try and kill me gcc…is that true let me know if you own any of the two and which ione is better.

The lil caique’s are amazingly entertaining with thier ‘clown’ behaviors…so a fun bird would definitely be the Caique…Guess it depends upon what type of personality you may be looking for in a feathered one! Why not do a little research & ‘you decide’…Whatever you do, make sure you do what is best for the feathered ones~ I suggest you visit some bird groups, whether in Yahoo groups or a few I can suggest is www.birdboard.com, www.birdsnways, www.upatsix…there are so very many. But joining groups that can share valuable information with you is definitely a win-win situation! Check some out…maybe you will connect with others who can not only advise you knowledgeably but possibly some who could connect you with a feathered one needing a ‘forever_home’~ Take care!

I’d like to get my cats a pet bird for the winter months because they miss the birds in the trees very much. is there a breed that is friendlier with cats than others?

I did this where I bought a pet for my pet. I bought my cat a fish. He watched it for one week and then wanted nothing to do with it. Then I was stuck with cleaning, feeding and caring for something I didn’t want. Birds live a long time. I would really think this over. Maybe get a dvd with all birds or a bird feeder for outside so your cat watch birds that do not fly south for the winter.

How come my mom threw my pet bird in the garbage?

when moms cat died or my brothers hamster died…they respectfully buried it in the backyard….but when my pet bird passed on…she just threw her in the trash?

I am very sorry for your loss, maybe your mother did not feel that your bird was an important part of the family, do not get mad at me for saying that, please, all i am saying is maybe you should discuss this with your mother to find out why.
