We recently took in a stray cat, and ever since our pet bird has not quite been the same. Lately, our parakeet seems to be pretty sick. Spending most of the time on the bottom of his cage, and being very quiet and puffy. The only thing we know the cat has is a severe case of ear mites. Could this be affecting the bird in any way?
no
I have some pet discus fish, i feed them every day and clean the water every month and i want to how i can tell if they are happy or not. Also does it matter what kind of fish type you have to tell if they are happy or sad.
It’s more about fish being healthy.
If they are healthy they will be active, alert, swimming about and looking for food when you approach the tank.
Now if normally active fish are hiding or gasping at the surface with fins clamped into their body that indicates they are sick or being harrassed by tankmates. That would count as ‘unhappy’.
Discus require very clean water to stay healthy. Get a water test kit and try to keep the nitrate level down below 10. That will make them happier as well.

Is it logical to have any kind of pet animal, that isn’t put to work for the good of it’s owner? Probably not, but I don’t have my pets because they give me a ‘logical’ response, I have them because they help me to understand my own spirit, give me a sense of well being, and create an emotional response. I provide them with a comfortable life, and they make mine more comfortable too. They keep me grounded and enable me to be closer to nature. They are companions in my life’s journey. I never chose a human friend because of logic. Why would I use that as a yard stick to choose my animal friends?
I have 6 cats, 2 dogs, a rabbit, a tortoise and 2 horses. There is no logic, indeed I often consider myself mad, for having my life so full of animals. But it is a wonderful life…
I want to buy it FOR my boyfriend FROM his new puppy.
From a dog or for a dog? From a dog to a human? Hmmm, how about one of those tennis ball throwing things – fun for both the dog and the man in your life!
My darling puss brought me a live frog this morning which I accidently stepped on YUCK!!!!
I don’t know about the worst but I know the oddest was a lily pad.
One of our cats likes to try and catch fish from our neighbours fishpond and came back with a lily pad once. I think he thought he’d caught a fish because the way he reacted when we tried to take it off him and put it in the bin was a bit over the top.
Although my mum did think it was a fish at first as she screamed when he brought it in which caused me to come running down the stairs to see what was happening and then burst out laughing when I told my mum it was a lily pad not a dead fish. lol.
My dogs get really bad tangles in their fur, so I have been trying different hair salon products on their fur. Is this OK?
The products are BioSilk, Biolage — Shielding Shine Mist, and Regis Glossing Cream. Do you think these are fine for my dogs? They won’t hurt them, will it?
Yes, it’s fine.
I use Bumble and Bumble Prep as a detangler for my dogs and cats. Works great. The crap about human shampoo being deadly to dogs is a bunch of bull. The difference between dog skin and human skin is a pH level of .05 NOT enough to be affected by "harsh human chemicals". Unless your dog is super senstive or has allergies or other skin condition, human hair products will not harm him.
